1. Our Commitment to Privacy
Amber Puppets ("we," "our," or "us") is dedicated to providing an inspiring, safe, and completely private storytelling environment for children, students, teachers, and families.
The Amber Puppets iOS application (for iPad and iPhone) is designed with a zero-data-collection, local-first architecture. We do not collect, transmit, store, sell, or share any personal information whatsoever.
2. 100% On-Device Processing
All creative puppet shows, character movements, stage recordings, audio narration, and photo cutouts remain strictly on the user's local device:
- No Cloud Servers: The iOS application functions entirely offline without connecting to any remote servers during creative play.
- No Accounts Required: Children and students do not need accounts, email addresses, passwords, or personal profiles to use Amber Puppets on iOS.
3. Device Permissions & How They Are Used
Amber Puppets requests device permissions solely to support core creative features, and only with user consent:
- Camera (NSCameraUsageDescription): Used exclusively within the Photo Puppet Maker tool so users can photograph drawings, toys, or themselves to create custom puppets. Photos are processed in real-time on-device and are never uploaded or transmitted off the iPad.
- Microphone (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription): Used during puppet show recordings so users can record voices, dialogue, and narration. Audio tracks are mixed locally and embedded directly into the final exported MP4 video file.
- Photos Library (NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription & AddUsageDescription): Used to allow users to select an image from their library to turn into a puppet, and to save exported puppet show video files to the device’s Photos album.
4. Zero Third-Party Tracking & Advertising
In strict compliance with Apple’s App Store Guidelines for the Kids Category:
- There are zero third-party advertising frameworks or ad banners in the application.
- There are zero third-party behavioral tracking or analytics SDKs included in the app bundle.
- We do not track users across other apps or websites, and we do not request access to the Apple IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers).
5. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) & GDPR-K
Amber Puppets complies fully with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States and the General Data Protection Regulation for Kids (GDPR-K) in the European Union and United Kingdom. Because our iOS app does not collect personal data or transmit information over the internet, parental consent for data processing is not required.
All links to outside services or purchasing flows are strictly protected behind a skeuomorphic Parental Gate requiring an adult reading or math challenge to access.
6. In-App Purchases & Apple Family Sharing
The optional All-Access Pass is processed entirely through Apple’s secure StoreKit 2 infrastructure. Amber Puppets never sees, processes, or stores your financial or payment details.
The All-Access Pass is a one-time non-consumable purchase that supports Apple Family Sharing (up to 6 family members) and Apple School Manager Volume Licensing.
